A black belt under the well-known Tim Thielen. Mike Peters has a unique systematic approach to the gentle art, having a few belts under the 10th Planet system and a strong background in Pedro Sauer Jiu-Jitsu. Mike is well-known in Chicagoland for his "nothing is sacred" approach to Jiu-Jitsu, with a laser-like focus on eliminating inefficient paths to victory. Often praised for his deep understanding of modern leg lock attacks, Mike combines the cutting edge of No Gi grappling with the grit and positional domination tactics that made the sport of Jiu-Jitsu legendary. As the head coach and owner of Five Points Jiu-Jitsu, Mike's goal is to create vicious competitors while also facilitating a safe, fun environment for everyone to train. When Mike is not on the mats, he can be convinced to play video games without too much trouble and enjoys tinkering with 3D printers, listening to punk music and spending time with his son.

TIM THIELEN

black belt

A highly credentialed black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Having been awarded his blue belt and purple belt from Jeff Curran, he was then awarded his brown belt from Brian Wells. He received his black belt from BJJ strategist Jason Sullins. Tim's high level training and exposure to different stylistic approaches to the sport has curtailed into a successful competitive career. Tim has won Pan Americans Brown Belt Silver, IBJJF Blue Belt Gold, IBJJF Atlanta Brown Belt Silver twice; in addition, Tim has picked up accolades at many other Jiu Jitsu tournaments along the way. Concurrently, Tim is USA Wrestling Safe Sport certified. When not focusing on the fine art of strangulation, Tim enjoys raising his son Aiden, coaching wrestling, eating, fishing, craft beer, mountain biking, power sports and wearing the shortest of shorts. Tim's diverse approach to the sport culminates in the application of attention to even the finest of details. He is well-regarded for applying these details and creating an environment of pressure for opponents where even the most minuscule detail leads to the inevitable unraveling of opponents.

MARIA GONZALEZ

Maria, formerly a brown belt, has now achieved the prestigious rank of black belt under the guidance of Tim Thielen. Additionally, she holds a purple belt in the 10th Planet system and a blue belt from Alliance black belts Issac Riggs and Jason Sullins. Maria has gained valuable experience by competing in various competitions, which has equipped her with valuable insights into teaching and establishing a competitive school. As a co-founder of Five Points Jiu Jitsu, Maria oversees the administrative aspects of the business. She also takes on the role of being the class demonstration dummy, the instructor for kids and teens, and the nurturing "gym mom" whom everyone strives to impress.
